Cost of elections in Kenya 2026

South Consulting undertook this study to contribute evidence to the policy dialogue on the cost of elections in Kenya and the relationship between electoral expenditure, institutional trust, and electoral credibility. The study examines how the financial and institutional dimensions of elections shape public confidence and the sustainability of Kenya’s electoral processes, and offers recommendations to support more transparent, accountable, inclusive, credible, and cost-effective electoral governance. The study was undertaken under the Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy’s Promoting Inclusive Electoral Reforms in Kenya (PIER-K) programme, with financial support from the European Union.
